Merrill Gardens residents received a treat this Easter, as members of Major League Soccer’s Seattle Sounders paid a visit. David Estrada, Patrick Ianni, Roger Levesque and Taylor Graham visited the community to celebrate Easter with the residents as part of the United We Serve campaign.
A large part of the Merrill Gardens experience is active living. But residents admitted that hanging out with professional soccer players exceeded the normal pace of a weekend in the community.
Players taught residents the finer points of the game, even to super beginners.
“The two ladies I was working with, had never touched a soccer ball before,” said Roger Levesque. “But they were scoring goals. I mean, it was kind of impressive.”
In addition to the training, all of the players decorated cookies, played soccer, and chatted with the residents.
“We love being involved in the community, so it was so exciting to have the Sounders come,”added Shawna Dazey, Merrill Gardens Active Living Director.
This was a great time for all of our residents. To keep up with the activities going on at Merrill you can follow us on Facebook.

Merrill Gardens at Mill Creek is making a difference by teaming up to participate in the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.
At the event, our team will camp out overnight and take turns walking around the track to raise money and awareness to help the American Cancer Society create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
Saving lives from cancer starts one team, one participant, and one dollar at a time. Our team is doing our part to make sure that cancer never steals another year of anyone’s life.

Meet Our Residents :
Laura has children that live in the area and wanted to move closer to them so she chose Merrill Gardens at Stanwood! She has now lived here for 10 years and is a proud resident of the community. Some of the benefits to moving here are no daily chores and no maintenance of a home. Being one of the longstanding residents, she delights in the community atmosphere created here. Every new day is its own entertainment. She spends time on her masterpiece paintings, finding inspiration in memories, family and the community. She participates in are pinochle and outings. A firm believer in ‘you make your own fun’ she adores meeting the new people that come to stay or just visit Merrill Gardens at Stanwood.
Shirley came to live at Merrill Gardens at Stanwood so her husband could receive memory care in the Garden House. They have enjoyed living here for the past 3.5 years. Shirley loves the activities, Anytime Dining program and friends she has made at the community. She spends her time playing chair volleyball, participating in women’s bible study, and going on outings as part of the Active Living program. Shirley enjoys visiting with friends, family and learning new things, like painting and horseback riding! With help from staff she was able to ride a horse for the first time, and what a natural! All thanks to Concierge Cece who came up with the whole idea to help residents complete their “Wish Lists.”
