Give It Up For a 77-Year-Old Roller Derby Queen

Merrill Gardens doesn’t currently have any communities in Cardiff, Wales. But we may need one soon, because the folks there look like our kind of people.

Meet 77-year-old Jeanette Morris, an accomplished roller girl in the 1950s. Almost 60 years later, Jeanette wanted to take another roll around the track, and her daughter found some folks happy to help.

The perfectly named Boba Fettish and Thrill Collins of The Tiger Bay Brawlers stopped banging on opponents long enough to help Ms. Morris – now nicknamed Big Jeanie – for a practice lap. (Personally, we think Ms. Morris was lucky to have these roller girls on her team and not have to go against them.)

Kudos to everyone involved. And way to go Big Jeanie! (Source:
