Oktoberfest is not just taking place in Germany – it’s taking place at Merrill Gardens. This month, our communities at Canyon Lakes and Puyallup hosted a variety of Oktoberfest activities.
Our Canyon Lakes community in Kennewick, WA celebrated Oktoberfest right! They served pints of beer along with traditional German fare. General Manager Charlotte even donned some sweet lederhosen and residents danced to a live Oompah band.
From lederhosen to pints of German beer, Canyon Lakes was in full swing!
At Merrill Gardens at Puyallup (WA) we went all out for Oktoberfest with bratwurst, pork schnitzel, sauerkraut and German potato salad. We even had an accordion player. To top it off we enjoyed pints of beer – Oktoberfest wouldn’t be complete without a little beer!
Everyone had a great time and can’t wait until next year – cheers!
Caroline is celebrating her 100th birthday at Canyon Lakes!
Carolina has been living at our Canyon Lakes community in Kennewick, WA for over 15 years and we’ve been lucky to have her! The third of six children, Caroline was born in Glendale, California in 1912. She attended UCLA with aspirations of becoming a teacher, but left school to marry her husband, Bill.
Caroline has one daughter, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

When asked what she believes is the greatest invention of her lifetime, Caroline answered, “Oh boy! There’s a lot of things, but the automobile was the best. You didn’t have to ride on a horse anymore.”
Happy Birthday Caroline – we wish you the best and many years to come!
Our communities all around The United States are staying fit! Last week, our residents at Canyon Lakes in Kennewick, WA hosted a day long Olympic games.
Throughout the day, we played a variety of games from croquet to shuffleboard. Not only did we play traditional games, but also a few rounds of Wii Bowling.
The games concluded with a screening of ‘Age of Champions’, a tale of inspiration and Olympic dreams. Before the screening, our residents told stories about their own Olympic hopes. Two of our residents, Roy & Corrine spoke to the group about their very own Olympic past. Roy and Corrie participated in The National Senior Olympics several years ago and they shared their experiences.
We have a blast staying fit with our communities. The gang at Canyon Lakes had a fun-filled day of fitness and good times!
