Top Ten Merill Gardens Facebook Moments

Last week, we launched our Top Ten Merrill Gardens Moments. In honor of reaching 1000 ‘likes’, we wanted to thank everyone who spends some time each day getting to know the great folks who live at Merrill Gardens. Through photo, stories, and comments we have been able to connect with so many great people.

Looking through all of our photo albums, we found many favorites. All of the photos selected for our Top Ten Moments embrace the best qualities of our communities.  We  tried to select the top photo, but couldn’t decide on just one. That is where we need your help!

To vote for your favorite, head over to our Facebook page to see the full gallery. We will make the photo with the most votes our new Facebook cover image!

Below are a few of the fun photos we have shared on our Facebook over the past few years. To view the full gallery, click here.

Facebook Users 55 and Older Grow by Over 900 Percent

According to a recent article by the Middle Town Journal, “The number of Facebook users 55 and older grew by over 900 percent in the past year, now accounting for 9 million users.” Over the past few years, age groups of all kinds have flocked to the social networking site Facebook. As more users continue to sign up each day, Facebook is unlikely to go away within the next few years and has become a daily habit of many.

Millions of people use Facebook everyday to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, share links and videos, and learn more about the people they meet.

In today’s busy world, Facebook has become a medium of choice for many to communicate with friends and family. Social networks, like Facebook, have become a prime way to keep in touch, stay connected, and reconnect with long lost friends.

With the number of senior citizens utilizing the internet increasing, so does the need for education within active living communities. A study cited in a 2009 Yahoo article concluded 37 percent of those 65 and older access the Internet regularly. This number signifies that not only do younger generations enjoy the platform, but ages of all kinds! In years to come, this number is expected to continually increase. Many of our residents enjoy using Facebook and have found it a great way to keep in touch. Do you have an account set up?

You can “like” our Facebook Page “Merrill Gardens Facebook Page” and follow updates on Resident activities, view photos, and more!
