Our Heroes

Every year, the Merrill Family of Senior Living communities recognizes some outstanding team members that work in our communities. These are people who have gone above and beyond to help make their community the best it can be. Their dedication, hard work, and commitment has changed the lives of our residents for the better. They excel in making them feel cared for and at home, and are crucial to the success of our communities. Recognizing these incredible team members is not only a way to appreciate their efforts, but also an opportunity to boost morale, foster a positive work culture, and inspire others to strive for excellence.

Celebrating these individual achievements was so fun that we had to share! This year, we celebrated three team members from three different states! Karen Lowery, from Truewood by Merrill, Riverchase (AL), Paul Keffer, from Truewood by Merrill, Bradenton (FL), and Marivec Reyta, from Merrill Gardens at Ballard (WA).

Our first Hero is Paul, he is a dishwasher who has shown immense dedication to Truewood by Merrill, Bradenton for over the last 25 years! In the words of the Executive Chef, Chris, "I've been working in this industry for 35 years as a Chef, and worked with hundreds of people, and Paul is one of the hardest working people I've ever worked with. He comes to work every day with a smile on his face." Other team members mentioned that Paul inspires them and he's always happy, smiling, and in a good mood. Next, we got the opportunity to shine a light on Karen Lowery. She is one of our incredible nurses at Truewood by Merrill, Riverchase in Hoover, Alabama. Karen has worked at our community for over five years, but has been a licensed nurse for 30 years!

All of her fellow team members had nothing but positive things to say, "Karen is the quality nurse that you would want to work with your family member" and "Karen is lovely and patient".

After receiving the award, Karen said "I feel very honored and very shocked. There are no words for how I feel right now. Happy, happy happy!" Check out the video below to see more!

Last, but certainly not lease, Marivic Reyta was recognized as the Argentum HERO Award Winner. There are over 1.6 million people working in the senior living industry, and the trade organization representing senior living honors exceptional individuals with the Argentum HERO Award.

Marivic is the Garden House Supervisor at Merrill Gardens at Ballard in Seattle, Washington. To say she was shocked would be an understatement! Tana Gall, Company President, said "When you talk about a HERO, she's the first person that pops into your mind. She emulates love, passion, she fills a room with energy when she walks in and she does it all so humbly. She doesn't ask for the kudos, but people want to give them to her because she is so good."

We must warn you, this video is a bit of a tear-jerker, but a must watch! Click below to watch.
