Ships Ahoy!

Meet David Romano who lives at Merrill Gardens at First Hill in Seattle, WA. We are so proud of him - he's just been honored for being a member of the Seattle Yacht Club for the past 60 years.  Yes, that's right, 60 years!

David shared a few of his favorite experiences with us as he looked back on years of amazing lifelong friendships and memories made at the Seattle Yacht Club.  He and his wife Beverley had a 48-foot yacht named the “Beach Comber lll”.

They used to travel to the San Juan Islands and Canadian Golf Islands to visit the several marina outstations that were exclusive for Seattle Yacht Club members.  He tells us that the Seattle Yacht Club has more marina outstations than any other club in the United States.

One of David’s fondest memories is spending time at the outstations, socializing with fellow mariners.  He and Beverley got to know their fellow members and loved to swap stories about their exhilarating yacht adventures.

David was part of several different committees at the yacht club through the years, working to create lots of fun events .  (David shown here top row 3rd from left).  What a great photo!

On opening day of boating season in 1989, David’s boat led the way at the front of the boat parade as shown here in The Seattle Times.

David is shown in the photo below on his boat the "Beach Comber lll" on opening day 1989.

His big moment came in 1991 when he was elected Commodore of the Seattle Yacht Club. He was featured in the 1991 annual yearbook and on the cover of the Seattle Yacht Club Binnacle Magazine.

We are so grateful for residents like David who inspire us with their remarkable life stories!
